During the past days, the southern forces sent large military reinforcements towards areas that are still witnessing suspicious movements of cells belonging to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda in the governorates of Abyan and Shabwa.

The reinforcements arriving in Abyan governorate are led by the support and support forces, and they aim to deploy in the areas of Mudiyah and Al-Mahfad districts.  While other reinforcements of the Shabwa Defense Forces arrived in the Musina'a area in the Al-Saeed Directorate.

The areas reached by the southern forces during the months of November and December 2022 recorded a series of terrorist attacks through explosive devices, identical to devices manufactured by the Houthi militia under the supervision of Iranian experts.  Those treacherous operations left about 50 dead and wounded among the southern forces participating in the war against terrorism.

Military sources in the southern forces told NewsYemen that the year 2023 will witness a major development in the field of combating terrorism and eliminating the rest of the outposts and cells that are still active from time to time in the regions of Abyan and Shabwa, explaining that there are security arrangements that have been prepared in order to strengthen the efforts of the forces that participated.  In the two operations, "Siham Al-Sharq" in Abyan Governorate and "Siham Al-Janoub" in Shabwa Governorate.

The sources added that the upcoming moves will tighten the screws on the movements of al-Qaeda cells that planted explosive devices on the roads and targeted the security forces.  As well as strengthening intelligence work efforts in light of local and tribal support in order to support security campaigns and the process of tracking down terrorist elements and revealing their locations and movements.

It pointed out that there is a wide deployment plan that will be launched on two axes: the first in Abyan governorate aims to strengthen the presence of security forces in the districts of Al-Mahfad, Mudiya and Al-Wadih, and the second axis in former strongholds of the organization in Shabwa, including the Al-Musina’a region, the Al-Saeed district and some other areas that witness suspicious movements of cells of terrorist organizations.

The arrival of the reinforcements coincided with the announcement by the Commander-in-Chief of the Security Belt Forces, Brigadier General Mohsen Al-Wali, of the launch of the second phase of Operation Arrows of the East to maintain security, explaining that "5 brigades of the support forces have been formed, especially in Abyan Governorate, to complete their cleansing and securing them from the threat of terrorist groups."

The past few days witnessed the graduation of the first battalions of the support and backing forces that will be sent to Abyan governorate to participate in the implementation of the first tasks in the areas and sites that have been purged from the control of al-Qaeda elements in Abyan.

The military expert, Brigadier General Thabet Saleh, believes that al-Qaeda has adopted the method of explosive device operations against the movements of the southern forces as a war of attrition, and to prove its presence in the strongholds and sites that were previously considered major fortifications for it in the governorates of Shabwa and Abyan.

He said that the terrorist organization received painful blows at the hands of the southern forces in the two governorates, and through the operations of Siham al-Sharq and Siham al-Janub, it lost its ability to confront, as happened in previous stages.

Saleh added that the southern forces need to strengthen their intelligence and military work in the sites where al-Qaeda cells are active to confront the IED war, and coordination must be made with the people of those areas and their involvement in security tasks, monitoring operations, and the implementation of tracking and combing campaigns.
