Emirati Ramadan aid and initiatives revive life in Socotra

The UAE, through its humanitarian arm, the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works, implemented a package of Ramadan initiatives and various campaigns in the Socotra archipelago during the holy month of Ramadan.

 These projects and initiatives come as a continuation of the humanitarian and relief efforts undertaken by the "Khalifa Humanitarian" Foundation in order to alleviate the suffering of the residents of Socotra, provide them with the simplest services and help them spend the holy month normally.

Over the past years, Emirati humanitarian and relief institutions have been keen to be present during the month of Ramadan through a series of relief projects that touch the pain and suffering of the population in Socotra and other liberated Yemeni governorates.

Food support

 Among the humanitarian initiatives, the allocation of a number of food outlets in a number of regions of the archipelago, at reduced prices, as this initiative comes to alleviate the suffering of the difficult living situation and to confront the high prices.  As these outlets, supported by the UAE, reduce the prices of the Socotra families' needs of basic foodstuffs by up to 50 percent of the original value of the commodity.

Food supply outlets in Hadiboh, the capital of the island, and the Directorate of Qalansiyah and Abd al-Kuri are witnessing a great turnout by the people to take advantage of the initiative, which relieves citizens of great burdens and provides them with their basic needs.

A member of the Socotra Development Committee, Ali Faisal al-Basiri, said that the people of Socotra are happy to disburse subsidized foodstuffs in the city of Qalansiyah, praising the Emirati initiatives that have a fundamental role in alleviating the suffering of the people, especially in this blessed month.  Al-Basiri expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Emirati white hands that are working hard to help the Socotra people in various fields.

 He added that the initiative was launched at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan in the city of Hadiboh and reached all outlets spread across the archipelago, to facilitate the citizen’s access and obtaining his life requirements without any costs and trouble.

Iftar Fasting .

With the beginning of the month of Ramadan, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority in the archipelago launched an Iftar fasting initiative, which is an annual initiative that the Authority is keen to implement.  It includes distributing ready-made meals to those fasting in the capital, Hadiboh, and its environs.

Before the iftar time, the humanitarian teams distribute 500 ready-made meals daily throughout the days of the holy month.  It targets hundreds of citizens who have expressed their appreciation to the UAE for this humanitarian initiative in the holy month, which contributes to providing iftar meals for the residents of the island.

Holy Quran competition

The mosques of the Socotra archipelago are witnessing the establishment of a competition for the Holy Qur’an with the support of the Khalifa Humanitarian Foundation. It is an annual competition that is organized at the governorate level under the supervision of the Office of the Ministry of Endowments and Guidance.

This year, the competition was expanded and distributed to 7 centers in the governorate, namely: Al-Salam Hadibo Mosque, Al-Ihsan Hadibo Mosque, the late Ibrahim bin Saif Hadibo Mosque, the Great Mosque of Qalansiya, Sheikh Zayed Mosque on the West Coast, Stero Mosque on the South Coast, and the Mosque of the East Coast Village.

The head of the arbitration committee, Mr. Khaled Abdullah, said that holding the Holy Quran competition in this blessed month has its importance in motivating young people to memorize and recite the Book of God and work with it in spreading the values of our true Islamic religion and its tolerant law and the Sunnah of our noble Prophet, who sent mercy to the worlds.

Abdullah praised the great role played by the Khalifa Foundation for Humanitarian Works in spreading the values of tolerance and fraternity and the keenness of those in charge of its activities to continue organizing the Holy Quran competition on an annual basis, appreciating the support and care of His Excellency Khalfan Al Mazrouei for his interest in this aspect.

Rahman Houses Service Initiative

Over the past years, the Khalifa Humanitarian Foundation has been keen to implement the initiative to serve the homes of the Most Merciful, in preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.  This initiative includes providing the full needs of mosques in separate areas of Socotra, with the aim of preparing and equipping them for worshipers.

 An official source in the "Khalifa Humanity" Foundation in Socotra confirmed that the initiative is based on preparing the mosques appropriately, including buildings, and providing them with electricity by installing solar panels, providing lights, and operating the devices that are provided, such as headphones and loudspeakers.  Likewise, the renewal of mosque furnishings and the provision of Quranic copies and religious booklets during the holy month.  Providing all the needs of the imams responsible for mosques to enhance their contributions to the service of Al-Rahman homes .

Ramadan tournaments

A few days ago, the island witnessed the establishment of sports tournaments between Socotra clubs, as part of the interests that the UAE Khalifa Foundation attaches to developing youth and motivating them to take advantage of their leisure time and hone their talents.

The island is witnessing the establishment of two football tournaments for the sevens and the Ramadan volleyball, and all 28 clubs of Socotra Island are participating in the two tournaments.

The Director General of the Youth and Sports Office - Socotra, Ali Saab, stressed the importance of activating the sports movement of clubs during the holy month and creating a distinctive sporting atmosphere during the nights of the blessed Ramadan.  We value the support provided by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works to the sports sector in Socotra by organizing such sporting events that have contributions to preserving youth, refining their souls and refining their abilities for the better.

He pointed out that the establishment of such activities has a positive impact on youth in refining their abilities and occupying their free time and preserving them.  He explained that holding the Ramadan tournaments is part of the branch's annual plan, with the support of the brothers in the UAE through its humanitarian arm in the archipelago.

In turn, the head of the General Football Association branch in Socotra, Ahmed Hazoum, explained that the interest and care provided by the Khalifa Foundation for the youth and youth sector in the archipelago contributed greatly to the advancement of the sector to advanced levels, advancing his appreciation for the efforts of the Khalifa Foundation and His Excellency Khalfan Al Mazrouei for the interest he provides.  And support for the youth sector through the continuation of sports activities and providing clubs with their various requirements.

For their part, the heads of the sports clubs in the governorate expressed their sincere appreciation for the generous donation that the United Arab Emirates offers to the sports sector, which had a clear impact on preserving youth and refining their athletic abilities.

Cleanliness campaign

And as part of its efforts to make the city beautiful, Socotra witnessed a wide cleaning campaign for the various streets and markets of the governorate, with the support of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works, as part of the efforts to promote cleanliness and environmental sanitation.

The campaign, in which various mechanisms and means of transportation were used, lifted tens of tons of waste that had accumulated on the streets and public places in the capital, Hadiboh.  This initiative comes within the framework of several cleaning campaigns witnessed by the island with the support of the UAE Foundation, which worked to provide the necessary requirements for the implementation of these campaigns, in a manner that ensures the preservation of the cleanliness of the island and the health of its people.

The Undersecretary of Socotra Governorate, Raed Al-Juraibi, confirmed that the campaign is one of the most important campaigns to get rid of waste accumulated in various places and restore the luster and aesthetics of public spaces.  Adding: Hygiene is an essential factor in preserving human health and preventing the spread of diseases and viruses to society.  Al-Juraibi praised the continuous role of the Khalifa Foundation in supporting various sectors in the governorate, including the hygiene sector.
