UN: Cholera kills 400 Yemenis in 2018

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has registered 400 cholera deaths in Yemen this year, 2018,

The UNHCR also said the rate of HIV / AIDS infection fell by three-quarters this year compared with the previous year.

The UNHCR issued a report to update the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which was published by its office in Sana'a.

"There are close to 400 cases of cholera deaths and 295,000 suspected cases of the epidemic in 2018 as of December 21, compared with 2300 deaths and 1.1 million suspected cases in 2017," the report said."

Children under the age of five represent a third of the deaths in this epidemic," the report added.

The UN report stressed the need to ensure access to clean water to cope with the ongoing outbreak of cholera in Yemen.

Cholera is a disease that causes severe diarrhea that can kill the patient within hours if he or she does not receive treatment.
