Sources in Tax Authority in the Capital Sana'a, controlled by the Houthi militias, said to Newsyemen, that the armed militias' leaders are systematically looting and confiscating property taxes in an unprecedented manner.

According to the sources, real estate taxes, which, according to the law, equivalent to a month's rent, became one of the sources of the Houthi corruption practice and theft and looting by the Houthi militias.

Sources said that Houthi launched campaigns to collect properties' taxes from the properties' owners in unusual manner as the money paid goes directly at the Tax Authority at the Central Bank of Yemen in the capital Sana'a.

The delivery method was done without giving official receipts which raises many question questions about the fate of millions of riyals that are collected as real estate taxes.

The sources confirm that the process of collecting the property taxes included the collecting the property owners of the previous arrears, and that some owners of large real estate have reached settlements to collect these taxes in exchange for paying money to militias' leaders.

The sources told Newsyemen that the Tax Authority does not yet know the size of the amounts collected from the owners of real estate; because the collection process is carried out informally and go for the leadership of the Houthi militias, which use these funds in support of what the militias called " the War Efforts".
