An agreement was reached by the Central Bank of Yemen (CBY) and the US Treasury Department to impose sanctions on violators of the laws and measures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing in Yemen, whether they are people or companies or exchange shops.

The CBY said that the agreement also included the cooperation to rehab the Yemeni banks and allow them to open accounts at the U.S banks after the CBY governor Hafedh Fakher Meyad suggested the Federal Bank of America appointing an international company to do such a step, including combating money laundering and terrorist financing procedures.

The CBY and the US Treasury Department meeting in Washington, have completed a series of mutual understandings aimed at enhancing the role of CBY and restoring banking confidence and financial cycle through banks, the CBY said.
