The top US naval commander in the Middle East told Reuters that the military threat posed by Iran had not diminished in the region following the September 14 attack on Saudi Arabia, signaling continued concern despite the ebb in violence.

"I don't think they are retreating at all," Admiral Jim Malloy, commander of the US Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain, said in an interview.

Asked if he had seen any disturbing movements of Iranian missiles in recent weeks, Malloy declined to comment on any information from US intelligence that led his assessment.

Malloy said he regularly follows the movements of Iranian ballistic and cruise missiles “whether they are transported to or from warehouses”.  It also monitors Iran's mine-laying capabilities.

“I get a summary of the movements on a daily basis and then evaluations of what this could mean.”
When he was asked about the significance of the recent attack in Saudi Arabia, Malloy said: "I think it is a land version of what they did with the mines  ... quick and covert, deny it if you can.
