Washington will continue to impose sanctions on Iran until it halts its destabilizing behavior in the region and accepts to negotiate a new nuclear deal, US special envoy to Iran Brian Hawk said.

"Iran targeted Saudi Arabia from the north and targeted it from the south through the Houthis," Hawk said in an interview with Al Arabiya television, stressing that "Iran's attack on Aramco facilities violates international laws and conventions."
He added: "During my current visit to Saudi Arabia, we discussed the investigations about the Aramco attack," saying that "the Security Council has a major role to uncover the reality of Iran's attacks on Aramco."

He continued: "We are discussing with the Security Council how to respond to the Aramco attacks."

"During a year of sanctions, Iran's sales fell from 2.5 million barrels to 120,000," he said, adding that the sanctions had caused Iran's oil sector to collapse.

Hawke stressed that the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran were caused by "its destabilizing behavior to the security and stability of the region," recalling that Washington announced "the establishment of a mechanism with Swiss banks to allow the export of humanitarian and medical materials to Iran."
