“Masam” removes 11,000 Houthi mines in October

The Saudi Mine Clearance Project in Yemen said on Sunday it had cleared 10,820 mines and unexploded ordnance planted by Houthi militias in October in a number of Yemeni provinces and liberated regions.

"In October, our teams cleared 10,820 mines, unexploded ordnance and an explosive device," Osama al-Gosaibi, general manager of Masam Demining Project, said in a statement.

He added: “During the last week of October 2019, we cleared mines and unexploded ordnance, and teams removed during the week 1712 of unexploded ordnance and 29 explosive devices.

In 16 months, Masam project cleared hundreds of kilometers of land planted with mines, improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance.

According to Al-Gosaibi, the project was able to clear more than 100,000 mines, explosive device and unexploded ordnance from the beginning of the project until 31 October.
