In a briefing to the UN Security Council on the humanitarian situation in Yemen on Friday (November 22nd), Ursula Muller said the Houthi militia prevented needs assessment and monitoring and forced UN and NGO staff out of Yemen many times without any reason.

She explained that the militia continues to impose an increasing number of restrictive regulations on humanitarian work, stressing that the restrictions of the Houthis regularly impede the provision of assistance to millions of people.

She said the Houthis had looted relief supplies several times and occupied humanitarian workplaces, disrupting the delivery of aid and services.

In the past three months, there have been 60 separate incidents of assaults, intimidation, detention and other ill-treatment of humanitarian personnel, the UN official said.

Ursula noted that Houthi militias intervene in humanitarian operations, engage in violence and harassment of humanitarian workers in areas under their control, and try to influence the choice of beneficiaries or implementing partners, stressing that the arrival of humanitarian aid is a huge challenge in areas controlled by the Houthi militia.
