The Saudi Demining Project in Yemen has announced that it has secured more than 10 mined areas in the al-Mocha, maoz'a'a and Al-Waza'ia directorates on the Coast of Taiz after it removed more than 10,000 mines, explosive devices and an unexploded shell from the remnants of al-Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen.

In a statement, the project said that its team was able to return the local population to their areas, the Jabal al-Nar area of the Al-Mekha directorate, after their farms, houses, road corridors and schools were secured from thousands of mines and improvised explosive devices.

Col. Othman al-Jahouri, commander of Team 20 in Masam, said the Jabal al-Nar area is a residential and agricultural area that the Houthi militia planted with large quantities of mines, improvised explosive devices and indiscriminately, causing a number of civilian casualties, mostof them women and children.

The team is currently working to clear a minefield of more than 17,000 square meters, and the team was able to secure 70 per cent of the total area of the field, according to Colonel Al-Jahouri, who confirmed that work will continue until the area is fully secured.
