Most bakeries closed their doors on Friday, in Hodeidah, due to the lack of flour, which threatens an unprecedented famine in the governorate.

A resident of Al-Hodeidah told NewsYemen that the bread was completely lacking due to the fact that most ovens closed their doors due to the lack of flour.

He said that the prices of flour have witnessed an unusual rise during the past days, due to the dwindling quantities offered in the markets after the flour mills and grain silos stopped working.

He explained that flour mills and grain silos were unable to pay the salaries of their employees, after the Houthi militia prevented the circulation of the new currency.

He emphasized that the illegal Houthi measure caused economic stagnation and widespread unemployment, as well as the interruption of the purchasing power of citizens, which warns of a humanitarian and famine disaster that includes all regions and districts of Hodeidah.
