On Tuesday, a multinational group of companies said they have decided to donate tens of thousands of corona virus detection devices and medical devices to Yemen.

The International Initiative on Covid-19 in Yemen, in a statement, said that its first shipment, which amounts to 34 tons, will arrive in Yemen next week and includes 49 thousand virus detection devices, 20 thousand rapid test devices and five centrifuges and equipment that allow 85 thousand tests in addition to 24 thousand DNA testing devices.

The International Initiative on Covid-19 in Yemen was founded by the charitable arm of the Yemeni Multinational Hayel Saeed Anam Group of Companies, Tetra Pak and Unilever companies and the Yemeni private sector group supported by the World Bank and the General Union of Yemeni Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The initiative works with the United Nations, which will distribute donated equipment, including 225 ventilators and more than half a million medical masks.  The statement said that the Hayel Saeed Anam group would provide the first shipment.

"The health infrastructure in Yemen will not be able to withstand the pressure that Covid-19 disease poses to the system," said Nabil Hayel Saeed Anam, head of the group, adding that everyone feared a great loss of life.  He urged other private sector companies to join the initiative.
