Mocha, Newsyemen, private:

On Saturday, the prices of fish in the city of Mocha witnessed a significant increase, as a result of increased demand and high prices of petroleum products.

The price of a kilo of King-fish(Dirk) rose to 7,000 riyals, from 3,000 two months ago, while the basket price Garden fish (Bagha) exceeded 30,000 riyals.

The price of a kilo of (swordfish) rose to 1700 riyals, compared to 800 and 1,200 riyals a few weeks ago.

The price of sweet fish, which is from the Bayadh fish, and feed on black volcanic sand and live near coral reefs, to 3200 riyals per kilo.

In addition al-Khurm fish has also seen a sharp rise, as the price per kilo has exceeded 3,000, after the price per kilo was about 1,300 riyals.

And fishermen attributed the reason for the rise, to the high demand for fish, in addition to the high prices of oil derivatives, which fishermen use to move their boats.

One fisherman said that the amount they catch every day is no longer sufficient to buy fuel and pay the wages of workers on fishing boats.

Another said that the high price of fish is linked to the increase in the price of oil derivatives, and foodstuffs as well, as what the fisherman earns from his work no longer covers the expenses of his family.
