Mawzea, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

Landmines, cluster munitions and other remnants of the Houthi militia continue to kill and maim children, as explosive remnants often lead to civilian casualties even after the end of the conflict in the region, and children are more vulnerable to landmines, as the weapons are often colorful and attractive to the eyes of young children, as they see it as a play.

Perhaps a step taken by a child, which takes only a second, will change the course of his life and the life of his family completely, as happened with the child Abdullah and his brother Farea in Mawzea district - Al-Mocha, where they were playing with a pen that they thought was just a game, but the result was unfortunate. The pen exploded and fragments of this small mine flew out to hit Abdullah and cut off his three fingers, while his brother Fara'a was injured in his toes, impeding his movement forever.

These mines cause the most difficult wounds, especially in the limbs of a person, and sometimes the wounds reach the face and eyes, and the limbs that are exposed to mines must be amputated in most cases.

Abdullah and Farea's mother, crying, says that her two sons have become confined to the house. Farea still carries a shrapnel in his body as the family could not treat it due to their lack of financial means.

This family hopes for the spread of organizations to raise awareness about these mines and their forms. It also hopes to obtain material assistance that will help Abdullah and Farea overcome his disability.

Mine risk education aims to raise awareness and work to change the behavior of society in dealing with the dangers of landmines, ERW and unexploded ordnance, through educational activities to reduce the risk of injury
