More than two thousand schools have stopped operating in Yemen

More than two thousand schools have stopped operating in Yemen, either because the Houthi militia used them as weapons depots, or because they were used to shelter families displaced from the fighting, due to the militia's escalation.

The International Organization for Migration stated, in its weekly update on the internal displacement situation in the country, that more than two thousand schools in Yemen have become unusable due to the conflict, either because they have been damaged or occupied by armed groups, or used to shelter displaced families.

Documented reports by local and government organizations confirmed that the Houthi militia is still occupying a number of schools, and has caused the destruction of many other schools, to be used as weapons stores, and have been targeted for this purpose.

In the context, the Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps stated that about 200 new families were displaced from the Ragwan District in the northwest of the Marib Governorate, due to the Houthi bombing of the IDP camps there, which is the district that includes more than twenty thousand displaced persons, who fled to it from the escalation of fighting in the district. In its new report, the unit said that the directorate recently witnessed a new wave of displacement towards the governorate center and the districts of Al-Wadi and Serwah, in conjunction with the targeting of the camps located in the district by the Houthi militia with missiles.  

196 families, or about one thousand and 372 individuals, were displaced from their areas of residence or to other areas, and of these 96 families were internally displaced to the “Al-Ghar” area in the Ragwan district itself, while 61 families were displaced to Al-Wadi Directorate, while the rest of the families were distributed among other areas.
