Aden, NewsYemen:

On Tuesday, the European Union considered that the United States' designation of the Houthi group, in Yemen, as a foreign terrorist organization, in addition to imposing sanctions on three of its leaders, "threatens to make the efforts led by the United Nations to reach a comprehensive solution to the Yemeni conflict more difficult."

In a statement issued by it, the European Union used the humanitarian situation in Yemen to justify what appeared to be a reservation on its part to designate the Houthi militia as a terrorist group, despite the heinous crimes it has committed against Yemenis for 6 years.

"The European Union is particularly concerned about the impact of this decision on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which is currently facing the risk of widespread famine," the statement said.

He believed that the US designation of the Houthis as a terrorist organization "will complicate the necessary diplomatic engagement with Ansar Allah and the work of the international community in political, humanitarian and development affairs."

He continued, "It is possible that this classification has disruptive effects on the delivery of humanitarian aid financed by the international community and exacerbates the economic crisis that resulted from more than five years of conflict."

The statement concluded: "The European Union remains convinced that only a comprehensive political solution can end the conflict in Yemen and will continue to enhance dialogue between all parties."
