Sanaa, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

Political sources revealed that the leaders of the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, have acknowledged their shock after the US State Department's decision to classify it as a terrorist organization.

The sources told "NewsYemen" that the militia leaders admitted, in private meetings with some politicians and officials in the government under their control, the disappointment they felt after the American decision, which they were not expecting.

Sources indicated that Houthi leaders said that they were counting on many (foreign) diplomatic and political efforts to oppose the resolution and persuade US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to back down from it.

According to the sources, the Houthi leaders revealed that they had received promises from countries, diplomats and UN officials that they would work to persuade Washington to backtrack on its approach to classify the group as a terrorist organization.

It was explained that among those parties was Iran, which promised militia leaders to exploit its relations with the State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman, to work to persuade the Americans to reverse the decision.

Earlier, sources told "NewsYemen", that the Iranian ambassador told leaders of the Houthi militia that his country asked the State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman to take advantage of their relationship with the United States of America and try to persuade President Trump's administration to postpone the classification of the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization.
