Russia calls for an immediate ceasefire in Yemen

Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, said on Thursday that Moscow calls on the parties to the conflict in Yemen for an immediate ceasefire and the start of negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations.
During the UN Security Council session, he expressed his country's concern about "the escalation in the Marib governorate and other parts of Yemen," stressing that Russia "condemns the intensification of attacks on the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."
"We call on the parties concerned for an immediate ceasefire and the start of the negotiation process under the auspices of the United Nations," he added.
It is noteworthy that the UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, had warned Thursday that the "Houthi attack" on the city of Marib "threatens the prospects for the peace process and must stop."
