Griffiths discusses with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman efforts to end the war in Yemen

On Saturday, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi received the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, and discussed with him the latest developments in the Yemeni crisis.

The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, in a statement on "Twitter", that the meeting dealt with developments in the situation and efforts aimed at ending the war in Yemen and reviving the peace process between the parties to the conflict.

Earlier in the day, Griffiths said that he met Houthi spokesman Muhammad Abdul Salam in Muscat, indicating that he discussed with him the necessity of stopping the fighting and resuming the political process.

Griffiths arrived in Muscat, on Friday, as part of his efforts to reach a ceasefire in Yemen.  Where the Sultanate plays the role of mediator between the parties to the conflict.

The UN envoy’s office said on Twitter that he would visit the Sultanate;  To continue his mediation efforts for a nationwide ceasefire.

 Griffiths confirmed his continued efforts to open Sanaa International Airport, allow fuel and other goods to enter Yemen through Hodeidah ports, and resume the political process.


The visit comes days after Riyadh announced a new initiative that includes a ceasefire in the country, the opening of Sanaa International Airport, and the deposit of taxes and customs revenues from the port of Hodeidah in the branch of the Central Bank of Yemen.
