The Director of National Intelligence, Avril Haynes, considered that the greatest threat to her country from international terrorism stems from countries such as Yemen, Somalia, Syria and Iraq, not Afghanistan.

"Although US intelligence officials are closely watching whether terrorist groups re-emerge in Afghanistan, they are no longer a concern in terms of harboring terrorists who can carry out their attack inside the United States," Avril said at a national security conference in the suburbs of Washington.

She added, "We do not put Afghanistan at the top of the list of priorities, but we look at Yemen, Somalia, Syria and Iraq...there are we see the most dangerous threats."

And she continued: "In spite of this, there is a "large concentration" of American intelligence services to monitor the possibility of terrorist groups re-establishing themselves in Afghanistan."

She pointed out that "the collection of intelligence information inside Afghanistan has declined since the US withdrawal."
