Aden, NewsYemen:

The European Union's foreign policy official, Josep Borrell, said on Saturday that the union is aware of all the Houthi practices and condemns them, but is talking to them to resolve the crisis.

He added, in an interview with Al-Arabiya channel, broadcast on Saturday, that the European focus in Yemen is on the humanitarian aspect to alleviate the crisis.

In response to a question about whether imposing sanctions might deter militias in Yemen, Borrell said he believed that Europe's sanctions might not affect the Houthis.

Regarding the war in Afghanistan, the European official said that the international mission in Afghanistan had failed to build a modern state.

He pointed out that the war in that country, which lasted for 20 years, was initially justified, due to the bloody September 11 attacks, and aimed at eliminating terrorism.

Borrell revealed that the Europeans learned two lessons from Afghanistan.

"The Union learned a lesson from Afghanistan, which is that democracy cannot be imposed militarily," he said.

He continued, "The most prominent lesson from the Afghan experience is that a military solution is not a solution."
