The American expert on national security and terrorist movements, Irina Zuckerman, said that the Islah party - the Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood - is not interested in lifting the siege on Taiz, otherwise it would have happened a long time ago.

The American expert added, in an exclusive interview to "NewsYemen", that it is clear that the ideology of Islah is in line with the Houthi regime loyal to Khomeini more than it is in line with the goals of the Arab coalition.

Zuckerman believed that the Arab coalition should work more closely with other factions and also focus on exposing the Brotherhood's corruption to the local population who was deceived by distorted education, propaganda and empty promises.

And she added, "They should have a viable option as an alternative to the Brotherhood's ideological rule."

Regarding the escalation of protests against the Muslim Brotherhood in Shabwa governorate, southeast of Yemen, the American expert said that this is due to the spread of corruption, mismanagement and the huge rise in prices that the local government was unable or willing to address.

And while the legitimate government in general was not prepared to deal with the deteriorating economic reality in the areas under its control, the areas governed by reform were worse than the general situation in general.

She continued, "The Muslim Brotherhood is known for its corruption and mismanagement in all the countries in which they came to power. Despite promises of social assistance, when they come to power, Islamist politicians tend to focus on supporting their friends rather than meeting the needs of the general population."

Zuckerman pointed out that the Islamists control strategic areas where oil and gas are located in Yemen, adding: "These natural resources that should make Yemen a rich country are smuggled to the Houthis or anywhere else and the financial benefits are not shared with the public," referring to the looting of  Brotherhood for the resources of the Yemeni state.

And the American expert Irina Zuckerman concluded by saying that "what makes the situation in Shabwa more complicated is that the Houthis were able to seize important areas."
