The pro-Iranian Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar revealed that Hassan Irloo, the recently deceased Iranian ambassador, was the one who directed the “activity” of the Iranian arm in Yemen since 2011, as an Iranian military official before he was transferred to the position of ambassador.

The online newspaper listed “glorifying” information about Irloo, in an article written by “Hamza al-Khansa,” a Lebanese recruiter in Hezbollah as a journalist and human rights activist in the countries sectarianly targeted by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including Yemen.

The newspaper said that Irloo was representing the Revolutionary Guards in Ali Khamenei's office, on behalf of "Qassem Soleimani."  He is responsible for establishing Iran's arms in the Arab world under the pretext of "building the capabilities of the axis of resistance".

He participated in the Iranian war against Iraq, in which he was wounded and his brother was killed.  The Revolutionary Guards transferred him to Lebanon, where he worked for 22 years, during which he built the Iranian arm there represented by Hezbollah.

The writer says: “Irloo is considered one of the first field commanders who contributed to building the capabilities of the “resistance axis,” starting from Lebanon,” and he has “a special relationship between him and all the leaders of the Islamic resistance in Lebanon.”

According to the newspaper, Irloo, through his role in Lebanon before the Arab Spring revolutions, provided support for the Southern Movement against the regime of President Ali Abdullah Saleh.  And when the Arab Spring revolution took place, Qassem Soleimani transferred him from Lebanon to Yemen, where he appointed him in charge of the Yemeni file in the Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force, to take advantage of the political vacuum that arose after the removal of the late president, Ali Abdullah Saleh in 2012.

The report says that, before the Houthi takeover of Sanaa, Irloo prepared a plan to link the capitals of the axis, which is based on sending invitations to former and current ministers and representatives, members of the free trade unions, farmers, teachers and all sectors of society, in order to exchange visits between those capitals, Tehran, Damascus and Beirut mainly.

After Al-Houthi overthrew the authority of the state of the Republic of Yemen and took control of Sanaa, the report reveals that Qassem Soleimani assigned the Iranian Foreign Ministry to arrange his appointment as ambassador to Yemen, even though he is outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The journalist says that at the first opportunity he had, Irloo entered Yemen and formally presented his credentials, observing all protocol procedures, before turning the embassy into a forum for all Yemeni political spectrum.

Those close to him assert that he was not dealing with the Yemenis as an ambassador, but rather as a brother, friend and one of the people of the revolution who is keen on the Yemeni people as these elites are keen on their people and that Yemenis now consider him a Yemeni leader par excellence.

Despite all his aforementioned positions, the journalist says that his activities in Yemen were neither military nor intelligence, but primarily political and humanitarian.

With the outbreak of the war, he intensified his interest in humanitarian issues, and established a human rights line to confront the aggression, in cooperation with Yemeni civil society and other organizations.

Hajj Hassan also served as a member of an Iranian central committee that includes several parties, whose mission is to discuss the Yemeni situation and its repercussions, and to provide aid and relief to the wounded and the families of the martyrs.
