Al-Auj presents a genius plan to “liberate communications”: Leave the existing to the Houthis and build a sector from scratch

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology issued a lengthy statement defending Minister Najib al-Auj, after a widespread campaign calling for his dismissal, against the background of his failure to liberate the telecommunications sector from the grip of the terrorist Houthi militia, Iran's arm in Yemen, in addition to his appearance in a hearing before the program defending  The control room for this sovereign sector will remain in Sana’a, invoking the security situation in the liberated governorates.

In the statement, the ministry said that Minister Najib al-Auj's response to Parliament's questions was aimed primarily at motivating everyone to support and facilitate investments, attract national capital, and encourage and involve the private sector to create a modern infrastructure that keeps pace with technological development.

While the statement attempted to patch up the minister’s statement, in which he claimed that “the liberated governorates are not fit for investment and that it is unwise to transfer state institutions from Sana’a to Aden,” he reiterated Al-Auj’s unwillingness to liberate the telecommunications sector from the domination of the Houthi militia.

Where the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology claimed, “Transferring the infrastructure from Sanaa to Aden is impossible for scientific reasons, and it is better for institutional building to take place,” and this means keeping the communications sector currently in the hands of the Houthis and building another from scratch, while ending the militia’s dominance  On this sector does not require more than a technical control room in Aden, according to specialists.

She said that the telecommunications sector and the high investment volume in it needs funds and a technically prepared infrastructure that can attract private telecommunications companies and capital, adding: "This is what the government represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is working on despite the great difficulties and obstacles it faces, without significant support."

The statement did not fail to list what it called the achievements made by Minister Najib Al-Auj during the year and a half of his assumption of the position, most notably the "appointment of a general manager for the Public Telecommunications Corporation" in Aden, while the institution and its facilities are in the Houthi enclave in Sana'a.

According to the statement, the ministry managed during the past year to regain its seat in the International Telecommunication Union, and the seat of the Postal Authority in the Universal Postal Union, "after losing both seats for seven years."

The Ministry of Communications revealed the launch of a mobile phone company within the next two months that will operate on the fourth generation technology and from its headquarters in Aden.

It stated that it had completed the first phase of expanding the Aden Net service in Aden, and started with the current second phase to include the expansion of the geographical scope of the service in the governorates of Lahj and Abyan, the cities of Mukalla and Sayun in Hadramout governorate, Ataq, Shabwa and Mocha, provided that the next phase, according to the program prepared by the ministry, includes the governorates of "Al-Mahra".  - Al-Dhalea - Ma'rib - Taiz" in the near future.

It indicated that it was able to operate the Aden International Gateway (AIGW), which is considered one of the most important strategic projects of the project to develop and improve communications in Aden, through which international outgoing and incoming telephone traffic is passed from users of mobile networks by linking through the national optical network of the Aden International Gateway, and the launch of the international zero  from Aden.
