Brigadier General Tariq Saleh meets the US ambassador to Yemen
English - Tuesday 05 July 2022 الساعة 08:12 pmBrigadier General Tariq Muhammad Abdullah Saleh, member of the Presidential Leadership Council - Head of the Political Bureau of the National Resistance met, on Tuesday, with the United States Ambassador to Yemen, Mr. Stephen Fagin, via a closed electronic circuit.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the Yemeni arena, the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, and ways to advance truce efforts and the peace-building path in Yemen.
Brigadier-General Tariq Saleh explained that since the truce took effect in its first and second phases, the government has made concessions to make the efforts to calm and bring peace led by the UN envoy with the support of brotherly and friendly countries a success, and to alleviate the human suffering of Yemenis, and to confirm its keenness to establish a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace.
He stressed that the Houthi militia did not fulfill any of its obligations under the armistice, and met these concessions by escalating its violations, and intransigence in the file of lifting the siege on Taiz governorate, and escalating mobilization to the battlefronts and recruiting children, to reaffirm its lack of seriousness and readiness for peace, and its dependence on the Iranian project and its destructive policies in the region.
A member of the Presidential Leadership Council called for putting pressure on the Houthi militia to force it to engage in truce efforts in good faith, immediately lift the siege on Taiz, open the crossings, ensure the freedom of movement of civilians and goods between the governorates, and exchange prisoners on the basis of "all for all" as essential steps to build Trust and goodwill, in implementation of the terms of the Sweden Agreement.
For his part, the US ambassador praised the position of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and the tangible steps they presented to make the truce succeed and alleviate human suffering, reiterating his country's commitment to supporting the Yemeni government and people to restore security and stability, and to enhance coordination and joint cooperation in the face of terrorism.
