Aden, NewsYemen:

A Gulf newspaper reported that the Yemeni parties have reached understandings regarding the renewal of the armistice, which expired on October 2.

Al-Emarat Al-Youm newspaper quoted a source close to the Yemeni government as saying that understandings on extending the truce would be announced "at the appropriate time" by the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg.

It added that the understandings were made between the interlocutors under the auspices of the United Nations, in the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

It stated - quoting the source - that the understandings "will meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people, and open new hopes towards reaching a lasting peace in the country."

It quoted the source that "the failure to reach an agreement to extend the armistice does not mean the end of the dialogue between the Yemeni parties, in order to find solutions to the economic, humanitarian, relief, military and security issues being consulted on."

According to the newspaper, what is happening between the negotiating Yemeni parties under the auspices of the United Nations and the international and regional community, lacks prior mechanisms to be built upon to reach solutions to all issues, especially those related to the implementation of the armistice provisions that were carried by the UN envoy's proposal.
