Last week, during the consultative meeting for journalists and media professionals from Abyan governorate, which was organized by the Southern Transitional Council, one of the attendees stood to remind the people of the governorate and the people of the south of the missing part of its map liberated from the grip of Iran's arm.

The young man was talking about his directorate, "Mukiras", which was historically affiliated to Abyan and the south and is currently administratively affiliated with the province of Al-Bayda, to demand that the media in Abyan and the south direct their speech towards its liberation from the Houthi group and its return to the bosom of the south and its people displaced from their homes.

Three days after this claim, and last Sunday morning, citizens found a Katyusha missile in the Shuaiba area, east of the Lauder district, launched by the Houthi militia from one of its camps in Mukayras, to land in the agricultural land of one of the citizens without exploding.

Simultaneously, a field commander in the Thura front, located between the districts of Lawdar and Mukeiras, reported the failure of the Houthi militia to launch a missile towards Abyan, after it exploded inside one of its camps in Mukayras district, which reflects the danger that this district remains in the hands of the militias, given its important geographical location.  .

The district, whose area is equal to the area of the capital Aden (about 1,100 square kilometers) and with a height of more than 2,000 m, makes it a platform for a permanent threat to the Abyan governorate and the south in general by the Houthi militia, which imposes the importance of the battle to liberate it to secure the south, and helps in the absence of a popular incubator for militias in it.

The closest explanation for Mukairas’ remaining in the grip of Iran’s hand remains related to the rugged geographical nature represented by a series of high mountains separating it from the liberated Abyan districts, limiting access to it by one main paved road, the Aqabat Tharah road, and another secondary road to the Aqabat Al-Halhel road.

The presence of the term “obstacle” is sufficient to embody an expressive image of a narrow road between high hills, or between the bottom and top of a tall mountain, as is the case on the Aqaba Thara road, the boundary between the southern resistance stationed at the bottom of the road and the Houthi militia stationed at the top, which gives it a strong defensive advantage.

This was embodied in the only attempt made by the southern resistance after its success in liberating Abyan governorate from the Houthi militia in late 2015, which fled towards the neighboring governorate of Al-Bayda and was stationed at the highest peak of Thara, and was able to easily repel all attempts of the southern resistance to advance towards Mukairas.
