Threats by the Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - against Egypt have escalated, in light of its recent announcement that it assumed command of Joint Task Force 153.

The deputy foreign minister of the unrecognized Houthi government, Hussein al-Ezzi, made a veiled threat to Egypt in a tweet on Twitter, in which he called on Egypt to "disassociate itself from any hostile actions" against the group.

Al-Ezzi said that his group "does not want harm to Egypt" and that "we will not accept turning Yemeni water into waste water or an open platform to harm the interests of the people."  He directed an indirect warning to Egypt, saying that his group "is very keen on causing pain to those who hurt it."

On Tuesday, before last, in a statement, the Egyptian Armed Forces announced the assumption of command of the Joint Task Force (153), which was established during the Jeddah Conference on Security and Development in Saudi Arabia in mid-July, in the presence of US President Joe Biden.

Joint Task Force 153, which includes Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Emirates and Jordan, in addition to the United States of America, secures the flow of energy and food supplies through the Bab al-Mandab Strait to the Suez Canal, and from the Gulf of Aden to the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, the most important objectives of establishing this force is to prevent Iranian threats to this vital region, which represents the lifeline of global navigation, as well as to prevent Iranian weapons and ammunition from reaching its arm in Yemen represented by the Houthi terrorist group, which hastened to launch threats against Egypt.

The group threatened, in the words of its Minister of Defense, Muhammad Nasser Al-Atifi, to take what it called "military measures in the event of approaching Yemeni territorial waters," claiming that his militia "has taken all measures to deal forcefully and firmly with that," vowing that "there are disciplinary options that will be taken and announced in  the right time.”

Observers believe that the threats launched by the Houthi group towards Egypt are Iranian threats more precisely, given Egypt's possession of a naval force that makes it its first competitor in the region, which means a great success for the joint force's missions in combating Iranian arms smuggling operations to the Houthis in Yemen.  .

The Egyptian army has a huge naval force that makes it among the most powerful war fleets in the world, as the Egyptian fleet ranks No. 7 in the world after China, Russia, North Korea, America, Colombia and Iran, according to the American "Global Firepower" website.

The total number of marine vessels owned by the Egyptian fleet reaches 316, including submarines and frigates, in addition to two helicopter carriers, which makes the Egyptian fleet ranked No. 4 in the world among the countries that own these vessels, according to the American website.
