The year 2022 witnessed rapid changes in the southern governorates. After they were liberated from the control of the terrorist Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, some of their areas were subject to the rule of the Brotherhood militia, which is affiliated with the legitimate government.

Events accelerated in conjunction with the decision to overthrow the Brotherhood’s governor of Shabwa, Muhammad Saleh bin Adio, in late December 2021 and the appointment of Sheikh, Awad Muhammad bin Al-Wazir, Sultan Al-Awaleq as his replacement following a tribal uprising against the background of the handing over of the Bayhan districts to the Houthi militia without a fight.

The appointment of Ibn al-Wazir was the beginning of the decline of the Brotherhood’s influence in Shabwa after three years of penetration and expansion that reached the extent of large parts of Abyan governorate, represented by the stationing of Ibn Ma’ili’s forces in the Shuqra district, east of Abyan.
