The terrorist al-Qaeda organization in Yemen intensified its treacherous attacks against the southern forces and the joint security and military units participating in the war against terrorism in Abyan Governorate, in the south of the country.
The de-explosive teams of the southern forces were able to defuse many mines and explosive devices that terrorist organizations had planted in separate parts of Wadi Omran and its environs.
The official of the explosives removal team in the 4th Infantry Brigade, Colonel Mohsen Muzahim, confirmed that the specialized engineering team continues surveying and dismantling mines and explosive devices by terrorist elements throughout the Omran Valley, which were planted in camouflaged ways to target the southern armed forces and stop combing operations in the rest of the remote mountainous areas that fled. to these criminal elements.
Colonel Muzahim indicated that the southern forces continue their unremitting efforts to clear those areas, which terrorist organizations planted with thousands of mines and explosive devices, while some sleeper cells continue to plant explosives in their treacherous manner, which they are used to, to target our heroes.
During the month of December 2022, Al-Qaeda escalated its attacks on the forces in the districts of Al-Mahfad and Mudiyah, specifically in the Khayala and Omran valleys. Where the organization carried out about 10 terrorist operations, all of which targeted the movements of military and security vehicles, and those attacks resulted in the killing and wounding of more than 30 soldiers, including officers.
With the joint security and military forces in Abyan clearing the center of Mudiya and Al-Mahfad districts, during Operation Arrows of the East, which was launched in August 2022.. Al-Qaeda declared a long-term war by carrying out indiscriminate attacks with explosive devices against the forces participating in the operation. This war was called the "War of Bombs".
Most of the terrorist attacks were concentrated in the Khayala and Omran valleys, which are the most important strongholds of al-Qaeda in Abyan and the south. Despite the clearing of the two valleys from the presence of terrorist elements, the attacks of explosive devices are still continuing until this moment.

The terrorist elements facing the fiercest security campaigns to defeat them from the two governorates.
Activate the intelligence role
Al-Qaeda, after failing to defend its strongholds in Abyan, turned to the tactic of improvised explosive devices, which it planted and detonated, especially in the main strongholds it had controlled for years. According to military experts, this tactic aims to counter the official insistence and popular support to defeat terrorism from the province after years of control.
Military experts and analysts accused of terrorist organizations stress the need to activate intelligence work in order to support the military campaigns taking place in Abyan and Shabwa, recalling the success of intelligence work against al-Qaeda and ISIS in the coast of Hadramout, which managed to secure the city of Mukalla and the rest of the districts in record time.
In a statement, the military analyst and expert on extremist groups, Waddah al-Obali, stressed that the intelligence effort must parallel the security and military effort in the ongoing war against al-Qaeda. He explained that the terrorist organizations rely on the tactic of treachery and treason and carry out booby-trapped attacks against the security forces, and this makes it difficult for the deployed forces to monitor and thwart them.
And he stressed the leadership of the security and military forces, in coordination with the local and tribal authorities, to move in order to strengthen intelligence work efforts in all regions of Abyan governorate, and to create one operations room for this apparatus so that it can deal and confront al-Qaeda tactics.
