The Undersecretary of Taiz Governorate for the West Coast Directorates, Rashad Al-Akhali, and the First Deputy Head of the Political Bureau of the National Resistance, Sheikh Nasser Bagil, inaugurated the third phase of the Mocha International Airport project, which includes the expansion of the airport runway, to be able to accommodate large planes.

Sheikh Bagel said that the third phase of the project, which is supported by the United Arab Emirates, will allow the airport to receive large aircraft.

He added that the airport project comes within a comprehensive plan that a member of the Presidential Leadership Council - head of the Political Bureau of the National Resistance, Brigadier General Tariq Saleh, is working on to achieve development in the liberated districts and areas of the western coast and ease the impact of the Houthi siege on the city of Taiz.

For his part, Al-Wakil Al-Akhali considered Al-Mokha Airport as one of the strategic projects, which is no less important than Mocha Port, the oldest port in the Arabian Peninsula.

He said that the airport will serve millions of residents in Taiz and neighboring governorates, as well as contribute to deepening the strategic importance of Mocha as a promising and developed city located near the most important global trade routes.

He stressed that the development projects witnessed by the coastal directorates are complementary to each other, pointing out that the establishment of Mocha Airport in conjunction with the work on Al-Kadha Road enhances the integration of these projects and development programs in the governorate.

The third phase coincides with the continuation of work in the second phase, which includes a reception and departure hall for passengers, and a control tower to activate air traffic across the airport, to begin receiving and assigning passengers via commercial flights.

The inauguration of a new air port will contribute to helping the besieged governorate of Taiz, alleviating the suffering of the population, and opening a new window to the world.

The Houthi militia has besieged the city of Taiz since 2016, through the main outlets that connect it to the provinces controlled by the Iranian arm, forcing residents to travel through long and rugged roads that cause horrific accidents.
