Aden, NewsYemen:

A recent research study said that the southern forces of the Southern Transitional Council, with the support of the United Arab Emirates, faced the two most dangerous organizations threatening the region and the world.

The study issued by the Eighth Day Foundation for Media and Studies, entitled "Terrorism in Yemen," dealt with stations from the history of the south in the face of international terrorist organizations, represented by ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Al-Houthi.

The study confirmed that the size of the responsibility borne by the Southern Transitional Council is very large, pointing out that confronting these terrorist organizations is an international mission and requires intensive efforts because they - the organizations - have local, regional and international alliances, explaining in this regard that the Houthi movement and the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen posed a real threat on international peace and security, which put them in direct confrontation with the southern armed forces during the war and until the moment.

While the study talked about the great southern national role played by the armed forces and the southern resistance in confronting these terrorist militias for the sake of all the cities of the south (Aden, Lahj, Abyan, Hadramout, Shabwa and Al-Dhalea), it noted the pivotal role of the UAE in supporting the political and military component of the Southern Transitional Council that managed those heroic battles against terrorist militias.

The study indicated that the UAE contributed to the support, assistance and training of the security and military services of the Southern Transitional Council in southern Yemen in order to secure various areas and confront the threat of extremist organizations, specifically al-Qaeda and ISIS, who were expanding in the liberated southern governorates to try to control major cities.

The study accused the political, religious, tribal and military forces in Yemen of politically employing terrorism with the aim of controlling wealth in the southern governorates in order to supply terrorism in the Arabian Peninsula and the world, and said that the Southern Transitional Council worked to take a number of measures to confront terrorist organizations with the aim of undermining their ability to commit criminal operations.

The study reviewed the most prominent battles to purify the south from terrorist organizations, including the Battle of the Golden Swords in June 2012, which was led by the martyr Major General Salem Ali Qattan, and ended with the liberation of Abyan from al-Qaeda elements, which declared the governorate an emirate belonging to it, and Operation Golden Arrow in July 2015, which was carried out by the Southern Resistance with the support of the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and contributed to the liberation of Aden and the south from the terrorist Houthi militia.

Among the battles, too, was the operation to purify the Mansoura district in Aden from terrorist al-Qaeda elements, which was carried out by the security belt forces in February 2016, and the al-Faisal operation to purify Hadramout from al-Qaeda, which was carried out by the elite forces in February 2018, and contributed to the complete cleansing of Wadi al-Musayni and the coast of Hadramout from al-Qaeda.  And recently, the two operations, Arrows of the East and Arrows of the South, which were carried out by the southern forces in the past year 2022, and contributed to the cleansing of Abyan and Shabwa from terrorist elements.

The study recommended the development of a comprehensive strategic plan to combat terrorist organizations that includes preventive, curative and eradication control, activating southern national legislation related to combating terrorism, activating the role of intellectual and ideological protection in order to combat extremist ideas, and developing security and intelligence measures for the specialized forces in combating terrorism.

She stressed the need for continuous coordination with the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee in a manner that achieves an effective and comprehensive combat against the phenomenon of terrorism and coordination with the international organization of the criminal company Interpol and regional and Arab entities to include and issue red notices for leaders, cadres and fugitive elements at the international level as well as freezing their funds and working to limit their capabilities in executing their hostile plans aimed at the internal arena.
