In his last appearance in the middle of last month, the emir of al-Qaeda in Yemen, Khaled Batarfi, called on the Yemeni tribes to support his elements to stand firm in the face of the southern forces, acknowledging the weakness in the ranks of the organization as a result of this confrontation.
The state of sympathy with which Batarfi appeared provides a compelling testimony to the size of the achievement achieved by the southern forces affiliated with the Transitional Council in Operation Arrows of the East in defeating the organization from its strongholds in the Shabwa and Abyan governorates, some of which remained permanent and fortified headquarters for its elements for decades, as is the case with Wadi Awimran east of Mudiyah district in Abyan.
An achievement achieved by the southern forces despite the human cost that it paid from its elements during the operation to pursue al-Qaeda elements, and it continues on an almost daily basis, after the elements of the organization resorted to indirect confrontation through the use of explosive devices to target the vehicles of the southern forces.
The achievement of the southern forces today in the face of al-Qaeda terrorism reminds us of the achievement of the nucleus from which these forces were formed, which is the southern resistance, in front of the other side of terrorism represented by the Iranian-backed Houthi group with the outbreak of the war in 2015, and its ability in a record period to liberate the south from it, which It is still the most prominent and perhaps the only victory for Operation Decisive Storm, which was launched by the Arab coalition in March of the same year.
Just two months after the launch of Decisive Storm, the southern resistance achieved its first victory over Iran’s arm by liberating Al-Dhale’ in May of the same year, followed by three months later by the most important achievement by liberating Aden in August, then liberating the rest of the southern governorates before the end of the year 2015, in conjunction with the liberation of Mukalla and the districts of coast in Hadhramaut of al-Qaeda elements.
The overwhelming victories deepened with the transformation of these southern resistances into organized military formations with the full support of the Arab Coalition, specifically the UAE, and today they are distributed over the map of the south with a strength exceeding 200,000 people distributed between the Giants Brigades, the Security Belts Brigades, the Support Brigades, the Hadrami and Shabwani Elite Forces, and their strength has been strengthened by the formation of the Southern Transitional Council in April 2017, which has become a political umbrella for it and for the project to restore the state in the south.
These forces have proven their worth as a decisive military tool for the battle led by the Arab coalition in the face of Iran's arm in Yemen, relying on a popular incubator in the south that rejects the Houthi ideology and its sectarian projects, and confronts it along the map of the south, and even in the depth of the map of the north, and this was embodied in the battles to liberate Hodeidah in 2018 of which Southern Giants forces formed the backbone.
The southern forces returned to confirm this, through the Battle of the Southern Hurricane, which was launched by the forces of the Giants early last year, through which they succeeded in liberating the western districts of Shabwa, in addition to the Harib district of Ma’rib Governorate, and within only one month of the grip of the Houthi militia, which took control of these districts after the suspicious withdrawal of the Brotherhood forces.
The series of victories for the southern forces in their battles against terrorist groups, both Al-Qaeda and Al-Houthi, and their success in securing the southern governorates embodies the fact that they are just a reflection of the reality in the south and an expression of the aspiration of the people in the south to restore their state and establish its first building in the army and security institutions, which represented the most important factor in the steadfastness and success of the southern forces in all its battles since the beginning of the war.
Battles waged by the southern forces against all projects hostile to the south, from the Houthi group to the Muslim Brotherhood, which today is on the verge of losing its influence on the map of the south as a result of its anti-project policy.
The last of which was the defeat suffered by the military and security formations loyal to it in the events that took place in the city of Ataq, the capital of Shabwa, last August.
Perhaps the escalating popular movement in the districts of Wadi Hadramout for months to demand the removal of the forces of the First Military Region and the replacement of the Hadrami Elite Forces, is a stark indication of the extent to which these forces represent a guarantee of security for the people of the south in the face of Houthi terrorism and Al-Qaeda terrorism, which is the same scene in Al-Mahra Governorate.
This represents a southern consensus that its forces extend their hand over the map of the south.
