Financial and foreign disputes cause a crisis in passports

Governmental sources reported that there is a crisis in passports due to disputes between the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs.

The sources explained to (Newsyemen) that it was expected that the government would print five hundred thousand passport books in an emergency manner to meet the requests for issuing passports in the liberated areas, but this matter was hampered by the existing disputes between the Ministries of Finance and Foreign Affairs due to the latter’s delay in paying its financial dues. Concerning passports issued by Yemeni embassies and consulates in Arab and foreign countries.

The sources indicated that the Ministry of Finance asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pay its dues as fees for issuing passports, but the failure of the Ministry of Finance prompted the Ministry of Finance to refuse to bear the costs of printing a new batch of passport books.

According to the sources, the Ministry of Finance has been asking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for nearly two years to pay the accumulated dues, as well as reduce the fees it imposes on members of Yemeni communities wishing to renew or issue passports, which amount to $100 per passport, while the fees for issuing it at home do not exceed 10,000 thousand riyals, at $8. .

The sources stated that thousands of applications have been pending for more than two months, pending the purchase of passport books for issuance, adding that the books currently available have been allocated to emergency cases such as the wounded and sick whose condition requires traveling abroad for treatment.
