Commander of Security Belt vows to cleanse Abyan of al-Qaeda members

The commander of the Security Belt Forces and the Rapid Intervention Forces in Abyan province, southern Yemen, Abdullatif al-Sayyid pledged on Friday to eliminate al-Qaeda terrorist elements in the province.
"We stand along with our brothers in Mudiyah district and urge them to fight terrorist elements of al-Qaeda, the malicious plant that must be uprooted without any pity or mercy from our land," he said in a cable of condolences to the families of the martyrs of the Security Belt in the Friday attack."
"We declare that our war against these criminal elements are continuing until cleansing the land of the South from the filth of al-Qaeda."
Al-Qaeda militants launched an attack on Friday on a security post of the Security Belt Forces in Mudiyah district, killing five soldiers and injuring four.
