Financial experts: confidence of central bank in Aden shaken, needs years to come back its fame

Conflicts have negatively increased the confidence of depositors, international financial institutions and local banks in the Central Bank of Yemen in the temporary capital Aden and have strengthened the devaluation of the national currency against the foreign currencies.

Financial experts told NewsYemen that the latest events witnessed by the Central Bank in Aden shook the confidence of depositors and the Yemeni banking sector and raised their fears amid the spread of corruption, looting, leaking files and lists of depositors at the Control Department of the Bank.  

In the era of its governor, Mohamed Zemam, who was dismissed by President Hadi, witnessed a wave of crises and conflicts with the relevant financial institutions internally, regionally and internationally, and the currency deteriorated to an unprecedented extent.

According to observers, the deterioration of the national currency in the past two days exceeded at the threshold of Y.R 590 against US$, and Y.R 154 against S.R which reflects the deterioration of the Central Bank's reputation in Aden.

They pointed out that the confidence of the Central Bank was shaken by clients and the banking sector and need years to restore its reputation, and remove fears that inflicted its fame.

In the past days, a heated media confrontation between the two sides of the conflict inside the central bank. Rashid al-Anesi, a consultant of the central bank governor, accused Shakeeb al-Hubaishi, a deputy governor and close to Jalal Hadi and an ally of the former governor Zemam, of corrupting, as well as described by employees at the bank, as he cashed a cheque worth $ 6,5 million, he got a benefit worth Y.R 1,3 billion, according to post published by al-Anesi in his account on Twitter.

On the other hand, a media loyal to Shakeeb al-Hubaishi replied that the al-Anesi attack came in response to refer al-Anesi for investigation after he took pictures of the bank's secret coffers and its brand's industry as well as al-Anesi stormed the chairman office of the banks supervision sector.

They said what have been done by, consultant of the current governor of the Bank in Aden, Meyad's consultant, puts the bank at risk after knowing its secret passages, the quality of keys, and uncover the secrets of banks and lists of their financial clients.

A central bank employee in Aden expected to NewsYemen that what are going aim to appoint Shakeeb al-Hubaishi, orientation of Hadi's relatives , as a new governor of the central bank in Aden, replacing Hafedh Fakher Meyad that triggering a wave of conflicts.
