3.7 million tons of Yemen's food imports during 7 months

Yemen's imports of basic foodstuffs during the first seven months of this year amounted to 3,798,549 tons, an increase of 7% over the same period last year 2018, according to the monthly bulletin of the market monitoring.

Cereals topped Yemen's food imports with 1 698 tons, 45% of the total imports, followed by wheat flour with 615 thousand and 16%, then sugar 602 thousand tons and 16%, 420 thousand tons of rice and 11%, followed by   Vegetable cooking oil with 283 thousand tons by 7%, milk product 179 thousand tons and 5% of the total imports.

The bulletin issued by the Technical Secretariat for Food Security at the Ministry of Planning in cooperation with FAO said that food imports entered the country through the various Yemeni sea and land ports in Aden, Hodeidah, Salif and Mukalla, and the land ports of shipping and Al-Wadi'a during the period from January to July 2019.

The EU-funded bulletin indicated that the share of Hodeidah and Al-Salif ports reached 54%, followed by Aden port with 41%, 3.5% for Mukalla port and 1.5% for land ports in shipping and deposit.
