The United Nations is deeply concerned by the recent escalation in the level of violence in Yemen, which has killed many innocent civilians.

This came in a statement issued last night by the United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths.

In the statement, Griffiths said that he was in constant contact with the parties concerned in Yemen to call for an escalation.

The UN envoy called on all parties concerned to take the necessary measures to calm down military activities, including troop movements, raids and air strikes, drones and missile attacks.

He also called on the Yemeni parties to commit to implementing the initiatives they had previously adopted to calm and strengthen the situation.

"Reducing escalation is critical to sustaining the progress that has been made in terms of calm," Griffiths said.

The UN envoy concluded, "We must all work to push the peace process forward, not to take it back. Yemen has suffered enough."

The issuance of this statement, which is the second in two days, comes after the military escalation of the Houthi militia during the current week, which ignited the fronts in Hodeidah, Dhale’, Marib, Al-Jawf and Sanaa.
