Geneva, Newsyemen:

The Independent Southern Group informed the President and members of the United Nations Human Rights Council of the violations and military mobilization by the Brotherhood militia towards Aden, in conjunction with the Houthi militia continuing to mobilize towards Marib, stressing that this threatens civilians and further destabilizes the region.

This came during the group’s speech delivered by Eng. Shadi Alwan, at the 46th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, currently held in Geneva, Switzerland.

In his speech, Alwan drew the attention of the President and members of the United Nations Human Rights Council to the violations that civilians in Yemen are exposed to in light of a catastrophic humanitarian situation that is getting worse every day.

He pointed out that the Houthi militia committed the largest part of the humanitarian violations, the most recent of which was the targeting of Aden airport with missiles, which resulted in the deaths of 135 civilians, among the dead and wounded.

He pointed out that the forces loyal to the Brotherhood organization in Shabwa and Hadramout governorates continue to kill opponents, arrest journalists and activists, and suppress peaceful demonstrations, as Shabwa governorate alone recorded more than 60 deaths and 516 arbitrary arrests during the past year.

Alwan praised the United Nations' continuous efforts to establish peace, stressing that the independent southern group shares the UN's opinion that the first steps to stop the violations are to stop the war and enter into negotiations.

Alwan called on the United Nations Human Rights Council to take urgent steps to stop the ongoing violations of international law, in both parts, and to push for a peaceful solution by stopping war and dialogue for a permanent solution.

He also stressed that a sustainable and comprehensive peace will not be achieved without the participation of all parties, including the southerners.

Eng. Shadi Alwan stressed, in the conclusion of the speech, that the Independent Southern Group, Partners for Transparency and Maat for Peace, supports efforts to hold human rights violators accountable in Yemen, and welcomes the Houthi leader, Sultan Zaben, on the international sanctions list.
