Yemen is the second worst country in the Global Peace Index

 Yemen slipped in the global peace index to the penultimate rank by one place after Afghanistan, the worst in the global peace index.

The Global Peace Index (Geneva Protocol) is an attempt to measure the relative peaceful situation of countries and regions, and it is produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace, and developed in consultation with an international team of experts, institutes and research centers, in cooperation with the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney, Australia, with data analysis by intelligence economic.

According to the index, the level of global peace declined during the past year by 0.07 percent, which is the ninth decline in the levels of global peace during the past 13 years, with improvement in 87 countries and 73 countries that recorded a decline, however, the change in levels is considered the second smallest change  in the index's history.

According to the report, "Yemen is now the least peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa region, ranked by Syria since 2014, and Yemen has recorded a deterioration in peace levels since 2008."

According to the classification, Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world, a position it has occupied since 2008, joined by New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal and Slovenia at the top of the index, while Afghanistan was the least peaceful country in the world for the fourth year in a row, followed by Yemen, Syria, South Sudan and Iraq.
