Aden, NewsYemen:

The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said on Sunday that he will do everything in his power to contribute to achieving a lasting and just peace in the country.

This came in the first message sent by "Grundberg" to the Yemenis since the announcement of his appointment as a special envoy of the United Nations to Yemen, to succeed the British "Martin Griffiths".

"As many of you know, I've become loving and respectful of your beautiful country over the past decade, which makes it more difficult to follow the events of the last seven years," Grundberg said in his letter.

"I accept this responsibility with full awareness of the scale of the task, the complexities of the situation and the challenges that lie ahead," he added.

He continued:"However, I can assure you that I will do everything in my power to contribute to the achievement of a lasting and just peace in Yemen“

The UN envoy said my office and I will always be available to listen to your priorities and to be guided by your aspirations.  We will work relentlessly in pursuit of peace.  We will remind all concerned of their shared responsibility towards Yemen's future."

He added: "I look forward to frank, inclusive, and primarily serious interactions with Yemeni, regional and international counterparts.

Together, we can help Yemen change the course towards a peaceful resolution of this conflict."
