Arab Parliament: Complacency with Houthi piracy undermines world security

The Arab Parliament strongly condemned the terrorist Houthi militia's armed robbery and piracy on the "Rawabi" cargo ship, which carries the flag of the United Arab Emirates while it was sailing off Hodeidah, western Yemen.

 The parliament warned, in a statement, today (Monday), of the danger of what the Houthi militia has done to the freedom of maritime navigation and global trade in the Bab al-Mandab strait and the southern Red Sea, as it represents a flagrant violation of international laws and norms, and a dangerous development that threatens the security and safety of maritime navigation in this vital area.  From the world, and as a threat to the economy and international trade, and harming vital facilities and global transportation routes, targeting them is a war crime, which requires an immediate and firm international stance.

The parliament stressed that the Houthi militia’s perpetration of this cowardly terrorist act indicates that its hand is stained with evil day after day in the region after it has become a symbol of the threat to the security of the region, and it wants to strangle the region by controlling the sea straits of global importance, stressing that any complacency towards this matter  In the Red Sea will lead to undermining the peace and security of the world.

The Arab Parliament reiterated the importance of absolute commitment to all relevant international instruments and charters, foremost of which is the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the 2000 United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.

The ship was on a naval mission from Socotra Island to Jizan port, carrying on board all the field equipment for operating the Saudi field hospital on the island after the end of its mission and the establishment of a hospital on the island.
