The Famine Early Warning Network said that the persistence of high food prices has limited the poor people's access to food in Yemen, despite the appreciation of the local currency against foreign currencies.

In its report, "Yemen Food Security Outlook, April 2022," the USAID Famine Early Warning Network added, food prices remain well above average despite recent slight declines.

It noted that despite recent positive political and economic developments, including the formation of a new presidential leadership council and the announcement of large financial aid packages from Gulf countries, the local currency has not yet stabilized and continues to fluctuate.

According to the report, by April 26, the value of the Yemeni riyal remained about 17 percent higher in Aden and 5 percent in sanaa, compared to the same date in March 2022.

The report indicated that the food consumption of poor families and food diversity slightly improved in April during the holy month of Ramadan in government areas due to the in-kind and financial support related to (Zakat) provided by individuals and charities.

According to the report, in rural areas, selling prices of livestock increase some pastoral families' access to food and income, as poor households often have to sell livestock to gain income.

The FEWN report predicted that recent minor improvements would be short-lived, as seasonal sources of food and income have been exhausted.
