Aden, NewsYemen:

An American study center said that the mutual economic conflict in Yemen threatens to launch a new spiral of military escalation, adding that "the benefits of the armistice are exaggerated."

The Center for Strategic and International Studies said, in a recent report, that: "Despite the decline in hostilities in Yemen, an average of 44 civilians were killed during each month of the truce due to landmines, improvised explosive devices, unexploded ordnance, and the continuation of violence in the main conflict areas."

More worrying, he added, is that the Houthis' recent attacks on the Yemeni government's oil areas and seaports in the southern governorates have forced it to halt exports and threatened to unleash a new spiral of active hostilities.

It pointed out that millions of Yemenis are now facing the danger of renewed fighting, and the danger of air strikes, ground shelling and missile attacks, referring to the efforts of each party to control and benefit from the fragile economy.

It pointed out that the government moved to freeze the assets of companies that import fuel in the areas of the Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - while the Houthi attacks on oil facilities forced them to close exports.
