Taiz, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

The Water Corporation in the city of Taiz revealed that the number of wells that it operates on is only 5 out of 31 wells that provided supplies to the city's residents.

The corporation re-established the deterioration of the water sector and its scarcity in the liberated parts of the city of Taiz for several reasons, including the cessation of a number of UN and international organizations to support the fuel operating many wells, as well as the occurrence of some major fields in areas controlled by the Houthi militia - Iran's arm in Yemen.

This came during a meeting, the first of its kind, held by the Board of Directors of the Water Corporation branch with the Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan, in the presence of representatives of organizations interested in water operating in the governorate.

The Taiz Water Administration confirmed that four main and underground water fields are located in areas under the control of the Houthi militia, which continues to prevent the re-supply of water to the city's residents.

The director of the institution's branch in the governorate, Samir Abdel Wahed, presented a report in which he touched on the conditions of the institution before the war, the great damage caused to the institution, the destruction of its headquarters, as well as the water network, the disruption of sewage networks, and the looting of its contents.

He explained that the difficult situation that the institution is going through was also reflected in its revenues, which amount to about 25 million riyals at the end of each year, while the institution was achieving large revenues before the war, amounting to one billion and 600 million riyals per year.

He pointed out that there were efforts that resulted in covering 33% of the city of Taiz with water, after a total cessation during the first years of the war, compared to 71% before the war, and covering 37% with sewage networks, compared to 62% before the war, in light of the presence of 4 main and underground water fields in the regions.  controlled by the militias.

In a related context, the governor of Taiz said during the meeting that coordination is underway with the Ministry of Water and UNICEF to find solutions and solutions to the water problem, stressing the local authority's support for all solutions aimed at increasing the city's water coverage.

Citizens in the city of Taiz express their discontent with the suspension of the water project for the eighth year in a row due to the war, the siege, and the looting of the contents of the water institution by influential people.

A number of citizens said, in interviews with "Newsyemen", that they have been living in the crowded city center for years, in light of the cessation and complete absence of the government project.  Adding: Their water consumption is increasing and they are unable to keep up with the high water prices.

The price of a water tank with a capacity of three thousand liters reached twenty thousand riyals due to the lack of rain, the high transportation costs and the prices of oil derivatives.

Drinking water prices in the city have also increased in the recent period in an unprecedented manner.

Local sources said that the price of one water tank, with a capacity of three thousand liters, amounted to about 18,000 riyals in recent days.

The owners of desalination and water treatment companies justified this rise by the continuous rise in the prices of oil derivatives used in operating power generators and transporting water to customers.

Taiz is witnessing a significant increase in gasoline prices, which left its effects on the various details of daily life and led to an increase in the prices of various goods due to the exorbitant transportation costs.
