European Union ambassadors call for a comprehensive settlement of the Yemen crisis

On Wednesday, the ambassadors of the European Union to Yemen called on all (Yemeni) parties to engage constructively with the ongoing efforts to reach a comprehensive and inclusive political settlement under the auspices of the United Nations.

This came in a joint statement at the end of the visit of the European Union Ambassador to Yemen, Gabriel Munuera Viñals, the Ambassador of France Jean-Marie Safa, the Ambassador of Germany Hubert Jaeger, the Ambassador of the Netherlands Peter Derek Hoff, the Special Envoy of Italy Gianfranco Petrosella, and the Deputy Ambassador of Finland Esko Manisto - to Aden.

The ambassadors stressed the European Union's support for the unity of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council at this critical time.

The statement indicated that during the visit, the ambassadors of the European Union held in-depth discussions with Al-Alimi on recent developments, and praised his commitment to peace.

They also met Prime Minister Maeen Abdul-Malik Saeed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Mubarak, Minister of Defense Mohsen Al-Daari, Minister of Finance Salem bin Brik, and Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Maabqi.

In the statement, the European ambassadors urged the Yemeni government to continue implementing reforms and improving the provision of services. They also called for the fulfillment of financial pledges and stressed the importance of integrating women.

The statement pointed out that the ambassadors held useful discussions with representatives of civil society, human rights defenders, and beneficiaries of projects supported by the European Union and its member states.

The EU Ambassadors emphasized their countries' firm commitment to an active civil society and human rights issues in Yemen.

The statement stated that the European Union and its member states are among the major humanitarian and development donors to Yemen, as they made the largest contributions (500 million US dollars) collectively at the last pledging conference for Yemen (donor conference) in February and also for the Safer reservoir rescue operation, stressing that the European Union He will remain at the side of Yemenis in their struggle for peace and development.
