UN shipments "a privilege" for Houthis .. Hunger kills 12,000 displaced people in Abyan

Displaced families in Abyan province from Taiz, al-Baida, Ibb, and al-Hodeida provinces launched a distress call to regional and international relief organizations to quickly save their lives and provide them with food, humanitarian and shelter needs.

Thousands of displaced people in Khanfar district face a difficult humanitarian situation, squatting on public land without any access to basic services, including food aid and shelter assistance.

Jaber Ali Ahmed, a displaced person in Abyan who came from Bait al-Faqih district in al-Hodeida province said to Newsyemen that " I had to move with my family about a year ago to Khanfar district, we live in harsh and difficult conditions because of homelessness, we are struggling to survive,".

Jaber confirmed that they did not get any a government support or local or international organizations.

 "I am the eldest in my 10-member family after the martyrdom of our father, …, I am looking for work to provide the necessary food to keep us alive."

"International and relief organizations have not visited us, they left us to fight death and hunger after the Houthi militias have displaced us from our homes, and now we live in very difficult and complex conditions,"...


"Therefore, we launch a humanitarian appeal through Newsyemen to inform the government and international organizations to save our lives."

Mrs. Matrah Awadh, a displaced woman of Hais district in al-Hodeida province, said " We left our house about a year ago, and since we came to Abyan, we have not received any humanitarian aid, shelter, or even cash assistance,".

Mr. Qasem Abdo, a displaced man from Taiz province, told Newsyemen that " that my family and I have suffered since we came here in Ja'ar city, ..... we live in a tragedy and disaster for more than a year without finding food or relief or shelter assistance. The harshness of life and its survival especially in light of rising prices of life requirements increase.

 "We hope the media will contribute to shed the light on our suffering so as to attract the government's and agencies' attention, including relief organizations to speed up their duty towards us and save our families from starvation," he said.

The head of the Shelter and Receive Committee in Khanfar district Ahmed Ebrahim Sewod said to Newsyemen that the total number of displaced families in Abyan is 2,711, included (12000) people.

The displaced in Abyan does not receive relief and food aid or cash aid," Sewod said,

He added that the displaced families in the areas of al-Kud, Al-Qarna'a, al-Nashi-al-Hesn, Batais, al-Ramelah, al-Makhazan Shaqra and al-Khabar are desperately in need of aid.
