Houthi militias nationalize private telecommunications companies

The Houthi militias have been controlling private telecommunications sector in Yemen for four years, transformed it into a private property. After controlling the state-owned Public Telecommunications Corporation and its subsidiaries.

The Houthi militias nationalized private telecommunications companies, referring to SabaFon, through the Tax Authority and the judiciary.

The tax authority run by the Houthi militias last week issued a decision to hold a reservation against the Yemeni company for mobile phone "SabaFon" under the pretext of non-payment for taxes, which the company denies, as confirmed in a statement that it paid 50% cash, the Authority refused to receive the rest amount via checks.

Last year, Sabafon dispensed with the services of 300 employees as a first stage because of its inability to meet its financial obligations, its subscribers' numbers fell and financial revenues declined.

Newsyemen received information that Houthi's militias have been controlling Y-Telecom Company, which the Houthi militias run its financial resources.
