Meeting: Production of water does not exceed 8% in Taiz

Leaders of the Local Authority in Taiz province, directors, and representatives of the Water and Water Resources Corporation attended an emergency meeting to discuss the severe water crisis in Taiz and some of its rural areas.

The first undersecretary of Taiz province AbdulQawi al-Mekhlafi stressed a need of coming out with urgent treatments to solve the water crisis and its shortages in the province, and identified the wells that will work to cover a need for the city of water so as to prepare the necessary studies to urgently restore maintenance of water networks.

During the meeting, Taiz Undersecretary Aref Jamal insisted the importance of devising radical solutions to any imbalances of the water shortages and not allow the wells' owners to raise water prices.

The Undersecretary of Defense and Security Aref Jamel suggested the importance of a circular to prevent the indiscriminate transfer of water that leads to a crisis in the city of Taiz.

The Water Authority's Director General, Badri Mohammed Saif, reviewed the main obstacles facing the Water Corporation, including the damage caused to the water network as a result of the war and the interruption of the water network coming to the city from al-Haimah station which is under the control of the Houthi militias.

Badri Mohammed Saif said that a need for Taiz city estimated at 35,000 cubic meters of water per a day, while the daily production is estimated at 2500 cubic meters.

 The Director General of the Water Resources Khaled al-Shuja'a said that the problem of water in Taiz city existed since 1995 until the moment.

Taiz produces less than 8% of its daily water needs, and the deficit reaches 92%.
