Taiz – NewsYemen.net

Civil society organizations warned all parties in Taiz against violations of human rights and humanitarian law and called on local authorities to shoulder their responsibilities and put an end to this tragedy that has been going on for nearly 18 hours.

More than 25 organizations stressed the need for a rigorous, impartial and serious investigation into everything that has happened and to take place, and to take legal action against those responsible for these unjustified acts and other acts that constitute crimes punishable by the Constitution and the law.

"Civil Society Organizations are following the worrying development in Taiz as heavy clashes, in which medium and heavy weapons are used, broke out today at dawn in heavily populated neighborhoods in the city.  The clashes have caused casualties among civilians, including women and children, and destruction of civilian property. The situation is likely to escalate and that is why we are demanding all parties to immediately stop clashes in civilian neighborhoods to avoid causing harm to civilians and civilian objects which is a violation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). "

"The continuation of these clashes under any excuse will only led to widespread violations against civilians. We warn all parties against violating International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law. We call upon the local authority to assume its responsibility to stop this tragedy that has been ongoing for more than 18 hours now, to investigate what happened in an objective and assertive way, and to take legal actions against those responsible for these actions and similar actions punishable by Yemeni constitution and law. "
